How to Review a Past-Year Mathematics Paper
A completed past-year paper is only useful if you dig into why each mark was lost. This is our method for turning a marked script into a clear, short revision plan.
Mark it the way SPM marks it
Do not just circle right or wrong. Go through your working line by line and decide where a mark would have been awarded, for stating the correct formula, for a correct substitution, for correct simplification, and for the final answer with the right units.
This shows you exactly which step cost you the mark, not just that the question was wrong.
Sort every lost mark into three buckets
- Careless: you knew the correct method but slipped on arithmetic, a sign, or copying a number wrongly.
- Technique: you knew the topic but were not sure how to start, which formula to quote, or how to lay out the working.
- Content gap: you did not know the method or formula for that topic at all.
- Write each lost mark next to its bucket and its chapter, so patterns become visible across the whole paper.
Turn the review into next week's plan
- List the two or three chapters where content-gap marks cluster, that is your priority, not the whole syllabus.
- Re-learn the specific method for each gap, then redo only the questions you got wrong, without a time limit.
- A few days later, attempt a similar question under exam time to check the fix has actually stuck.
