Our own analysis of how SPM Mathematics has been examined since the 2021 format, which chapters recur, and where marks are typically won or lost. We do not reproduce past questions.
What the format sets
Since 2021 the exam has two papers with a fixed structure: Paper 1 objective, Paper 2 in three sections, and a difficulty mix of 5:3:2. That structure shapes revision more than trying to guess which topics will appear, which no one can honestly predict.
How to use past papers
Practise past papers to rehearse timing and technique, not to memorise answers. Mark your own working the way SPM marks it, and note which chapters and question types cost you marks, that is where your revision should go.
Where marks are typically won and lost
Marks tend to move in predictable places, even though the questions do not. In Paper 1 the losses are usually careless, a misread question, a sign slip, or a rushed final line, because dichotomous scoring gives no credit for method.
In Paper 2 the opposite is true: analytic scoring rewards every correct step, so untidy or missing working is where students quietly bleed marks. Neither pattern requires guessing a single topic.
How the difficulty spread shapes a paper
The published difficulty mix is Low : Medium : High = 5 : 3 : 2, so roughly half of every paper is built from accessible, low-difficulty questions and only a fifth is the hardest, higher-order type. That structure, not any topic list, is why a well-drilled student can reach a solid grade by securing the easy and medium marks first, then reaching for the harder ones.
It is the same shape every year, whatever chapters the questions dress themselves in.
Keep a personal trend log
- After each practice paper, record every lost mark with the chapter it came from and why you lost it.
- Sort the losses into three columns, careless, technique, and genuine gap, and tally them over several papers.
- Revise the column that is costing you most; for most students that is careless or technique, which are the fastest to fix.

Can you tell me which topics will appear in this year's paper?
No, and anyone who claims to is guessing. What we can say honestly is that the format is fixed: two papers, three Paper 2 sections, and a Low : Medium : High = 5 : 3 : 2 difficulty spread.
Prepare across the whole syllabus and drill technique; that is what the structure actually rewards.
Have the papers since 2021 become harder?
The format changed in 2021, not necessarily the difficulty. Every paper is still built to the same Low : Medium : High = 5 : 3 : 2 spread of low, medium and high-order questions.
What feels harder to some students is the greater emphasis on applying maths to unfamiliar situations, which is a technique you can practise rather than a moving target.
How many past-format papers should I work through?
Quality beats quantity. A handful worked fully under timed conditions and then marked honestly teaches more than a dozen skimmed.
Aim for enough that the timing feels routine, often several complete papers in the final month, and always diagnose your losses after each one instead of moving straight to the next.
